The spark that started my journey to be a Digital Marketer...

I started off avoiding any job that is related to IT as a whole, but when I started my small business for Pet Sitting, I started to realize that it is time I pick up some new skills/knowledge.

I personally felt that for me to move forward especially with my small business, I needed to step learn what a Digital Marketer does, and embark on this new journey instead of being afraid and stagnant in progress. I did my research and realized I have a fair interest in Digital Marketing and that the modules are not as detestable as I thought. I really love what I am doing and wish to develop my business further. Hence, I decided to learn more the skills of a Digital Marketer like how to advertise my service, how do I bring people to my business and such.

Journey of learning Marketing


The journey of learning Marketing have been really enjoyable and it is also eye-opening how Marketing is not just plainly about selling, but also a lot on other concepts like knowing your customer's 8 personality profile(Psychographic Segmentation) like whether they are Innovators, Survivors, Achievers, or Makers and so on. One part of my learning so far that I love and found the most interesting is the social media marketing and content creating part on Archetypes and Brand style guide. It bring me back to the days where I was reading up a lot on psychology related topics and I felt this is one topic I can relate to the most and it really tingles my interest to know even more. Throughout the journey in learning Marketing, I have faced quite a few challenges especially in group works but learned from it. There was once that we had a tight timeline and had to do survey as a group on preferred mobile brands, everyone was not on the same wavelength and we spent half the time being disorganized, but eventually we worked it out and managed to collate the survey results into excel and slides and presented as a group. I personally really cherish learning experiences like this as it helps us grow as a person and a group, I also felt that this would prepare us for conflict management in our future Marketing career.

How can I use business marketing for my goal?

My goal is to expand my small business of pet sitting with the skills I learned from this Digital Marketing journey, I plan to slowly increase the services I provide and prioritize my catering of services more to rescued pets and sickly pets. The services that I am looking to expand to is

home boarding, pet transport and medical care. When I first launch my business officially, I know that all these skillsets I am learning now would come in handy and essential as I do not wish to spend too much at the start and save it for rainy days and crisis I might face along the ways after launching. By skillsets, I am referring to skills such as 4Ps, SEO, Brand Style Guides, content creating and more. I feel that 4Ps and SEO would be one of the most important on top of content creating as I would love to increase the quality of my business's marketing and the visibility my business receives. The 4Ps (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) will help me in developing the ‘right’ services and making it available at the ‘right’ place with the ‘right’ promotion and at the ‘right’ price, to satisfy target consumers and still meet the objectives of the business. I will definitely continue to upskill along the way on not only business marketing but also other skillsets related to my pet sitting business and keep my knowledge up to date.
